Hayabusa Discovered

Tokyo -- The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is celebrating the successful return of the space capsule Hayabusa, which landed by parachute shortly before midnight on Sunday evening.

Hayabusa was located about an hour after its descent in the target zone in the Woomera Prohibited Area, Australia, as had been planned.

It is expected to take a number of weeks for scientists to determine whether or not Hayabusa was successful in collecting any dust from the asteroid 25143 Itokawa, where it landed for about half an hour on November 19, 2005.

This mission was the first of its kind and, if it was successful, the materials it brought back could lead to new discoveries about the nature of the universe.
