Tokyo -- On the occasion of the American Independence Day, Japanese protestors gathered outside Shinjuku Station in Tokyo to hold an anti-base rally and a protest march.

The protestors explained that even if there is a new prime minister with a stronger public approval rating, it is still unacceptable to them that the US Marine airbase Futenma remains in place and that the plan to build a new base at Henoko continues to be accepted by Tokyo.

They describe Prime Minister Kan's pledge to reduce the burden of US bases on Okinawa while at the same time accepting the Henoko plan as a kind of "fraud."

They also assert that the disinterest of main island Japanese in the feelings of the people of Okinawa represents an unspoken discrimination against the southern islanders.

The protestors plan to hold at least three other demonstrations around the city of Tokyo in July.
