Tsunami Reflections is a personal account by Charles Pomeroy, an American author of Japan’s horrific tragedy that wiped out the port town of Otsuchi on Iwate Prefecture’s Sanriku Coast in 2011. It directly affected his family members as well as destroying his retirement home. Presented are geographical and historical context for the town and pre-tsunami lifestyles, followed by descriptions of the tsunami, its aftermath, loss of family, mass funerals, humanitarian efforts, and plans for recovery. The author will discuss his work at a “Book Break” scheduled for the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan on March 11, 2015, the fourth anniversary of the event.
