Ozawa and Hatoyama

Tokyo -- Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and DPJ Secretary-General Ichiro Ozawa are stepping down from their posts today, just eight months after "regime change" brought an end to the long LDP era in Japanese politics.

There were perhaps three main reasons why the Hatoyama administration failed so miserably.

First, both Hatoyama and Ozawa were mired in campaign finance scandals which strongly detracted from the public perception that they were ushering in a new style of politics...
