Rabat—(PanOrient News): Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has highlighted the support of many influential countries and commended the positive momentum regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.

In his speech at the opening session of the Moroccan Parliament, the Moroccan monarch underscored the importance of support from permanent members of the Security Council, such as France and the United States, for Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara territory. He expressed his gratitude to France and to French President Emmanuel Macron for his recent unequivocal support for the Sahara as a Moroccan territory.

The Monarch also welcomed the support of a growing number of countries from different parts of the world, including the valuable support of Spain – which carries deep political and historical connotations – as well as the support of the majority of the European Union countries.

The sovereign also expressed his pride in the support of Arab and African nations, which have been clearly and steadfastly backing the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, notably the countries that have opened Consulates General in the Saharan cities of Laayoune and Dakhla.

The King insisted that this new momentum is a victory for truth and legitimacy and is a recognition of Morocco's historical rights.

The Sovereign also thanked all countries that have invested in the southern provinces of the Kingdom and praised their contribution to the economic, social and cultural development in the region, an act that aims to strengthen its position as a hub for communication and exchange between Morocco and all of Africa.

The King further pinpointed the strategic continental initiatives he has launched in recent years, such as the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project, the Africa-Atlantic Initiative, and the initiative to give the Sahelian countries access to the Atlantic Ocean.

The King also invited Parliament and its bodies to fully play their role in explaining Morocco’s position to the few countries whose stances on the issue still go against the logic of truth and history by providing them with the legal, political and historical arguments to prove the legitimate identity of the Moroccan Sahara.
