RABAT: Morocco has stated that Israel “recognizes the its sovereignty over the territory of Western Sahara.” A statement from Morocco’s Royal Office said King Mohammed VI had received a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirming that. Netanyahu said the decision would be “transmitted to the United Nations, to regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.” In his letter to King Mohammed, the Israeli Prime Minister said Israel is positively examining the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla as part of the implementation of its decision.
King Mohammed VI affirmed that legal foundations and historical rights give Morocco effective sovereignty over the Sahara, “as the legal bonds of allegiance that have been linking since the eras of the sultans and kings of Morocco and the Moroccan population to these lands dear to their hearts are unquestionable elements.”
