Japan Grants USD 4 million to Support Refugees

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) The Japanese government will extend an emergency grant of 2 million US dollars to West Balkan countries in response to the mass influx of refugees and migrants who are passing through on their way to EU member countries
The financial aid will provide support for improving reception centers for refugees and migrants, border management and food and medical services mainly to Serbia and Macedonia, both of which are non-EU countries without the coverage of the EU safety net.
A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said this emergency aid will be extended through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
IOM will use USD 0.5 million toward improvement of border management and refugee and migrant registration and IFRC will use their grant of 0.5 million toward food and medical support.
The Japanese government will provide an additional emergency fund of 2 million US dollars through United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in support of Syrian refugees and host communities in Lebanon. The statement said that I million of the grant is aimed specifically toward improvement of the reception centers for refugees and migrants, and the other I million is toward psychological care.
The financial aid is to support self-reliance of Syrian refugees whilst also strengthening local governments that contribute to the welfare of both Syrian Refugees and communities in Lebanon - presently hosting over 1 million Syrian Refugees.
