PM Abe 2016 Sakura Party

Friday, April 15, 2016

The annual cherry blossom viewing party, hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe this year of 2016, was held Saturday morning at Tokyo's Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
About 16,000 people from political, business, cultural, entertainment, press and other communities attended the party and were treated to the Japanese Self-Defense Forces brass band.
Abe welcomed the guests in a speech using the analogy of cherry blossoms that remained in bloom to explain the need for perseverance. Abe underscored his intention to do all he can to tackle immediate policy challenges facing Japan. He expressed his resolve on Saturday to shore up the Japanese economy.
The Prime Minister’s wife, Akie Abe, thanked the crowd for attending and asked for them to cheer her on so that she can support her husband before she proposed a toast. This was followed by Prime Minister Abe giving another toast along with the leadership of his party and ruling coalition partner, the Komeito party.
Abe chatted and took pictures with cheering participants who gathered in two lines between which Abe was going back and forth shaking hands.
Abe’s convoy left the park while the guests remained, free to bask by the Japanese cherry blossom trees on a warm and sunny day.
