Following the much-awaited announcement by the Japanese government on April 1 that "Reiwa" would be its choice for the name of the new imperial reign to take effect from May 1, frantic commercialization commenced. Within hours, sales were launched of everything from T-shirts and internet domains to boxes of confections heralding the new name. Not to be outdone, a massage emporium in Nishi Kawaguchi, a Tokyo suburb known for its somewhat sleazy nightlife, was quick to jump on the bandwagon, adopting the name Reiwa for the shop itself. Its offerings include "Taiwan-style" massage treatments, including a back or shoulder rub priced at 1,500 yen for 15 minutes and an hour-long "aroma oil course" for 5,980 yen. (MS)
