YANGON: Myanmar has strongly rejected what it refers to as "fake news" from certain Western media outlets and a human rights group. These sources have accused the Myanmar government and military of failing to assist in earthquake rescue efforts and of misappropriating funds. The government has clarified its stance, stating that these allegations are "baseless.”
The Information Minister, U Mg Mg Ohn, assured the PanOrient News correspondent in Yangon that both the government and the military are fully committed to collaborating with the people of Myanmar, as well as with search and rescue teams from various countries. These international teams have expressed sympathy and goodwill toward the people of Myanmar during this time of extreme hardship, and their support is greatly appreciated.
Minister U Mg Mg Ohn has made a strong appeal to Western media and human rights officials. He has urged them to stop spreading "fake news" that creates misunderstandings among the international community and discourages donations and contributions intended to help the people of Myanmar.
"Not being interested in helping the country and its people while in extreme difficulty is an individual's choice," he said. "But preventing others from extending help is a criminal act.”
Media reports have accused the Myanmar military of not participating in the rescue operations, blocking or stealing assistance, attacking the rebels, and using the situation to normalize its relations with other countries.
China, an important international player, has expressed concern over the situation in Myanmar. A relief convoy from China was reportedly fired upon, leading China's Foreign Ministry to urge all parties in Myanmar to prioritize earthquake relief efforts. They emphasized the need to ensure the safety of rescue personnel and supplies from China and other countries.
