Qatar's FM reiterates his country is a mediator in Gaza
Monday, December 8, 2025
Khaldon Azhari DOHA (Qatar)- PanOrient News: Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani emphasized Qatar's role as a neutral mediator in Gaza, facilitating ceasefires and hostage releases, rather than taking sides or funding Hamas, addressing concerns about Qatar's true intentions. In an interview with American social media critic and journalist Tucker Carlson in Doha on Sunday, Al Thani stated that the Hamas office in Qatar, which was targeted by Israel, was solely intended for managing educational efforts, facilitating a ceasefire, and coordinating aid to Gaza. He pointed out that the mediation by Qatar and the communication with Hamas through its representatives in Qatar "led to ceasefires and the release of hostages." Israeli propaganda claimed that Qatar was "funding terror" in Gaza through Hamas. Al Thani stressed that Qatar's financial support to Gaza was conducted transparently, with both the United States and Israel fully aware of the process, which aims to build confidence in Qatar's role.
In a special session at the Doha Forum, attended by hundreds of participants from around the world, Al Thani explained, "Our discussions with the United States focused on how to de-escalate tensions and bring peace to the region." He went on to say, "This peace cannot be achieved without the involvement of everyone in the region. Mediation provides a safe space for conflicting parties to negotiate and resolve their issues, ultimately ending wars and conflicts. It is unprecedented for a mediator to be attacked by one of the parties involved in the conflict." The Qatari Foreign Minister stated that the people of Gaza must determine their own future. He emphasized that Qatar would support the Palestinian people but was unsure when asked if Qatar should contribute to rebuilding what Israel has destroyed. He mentioned that he believes US President Donald Trump's plan for regional countries to assist in rebuilding Gaza is the way forward. Repairing the buildings in Gaza is not the primary issue. The bigger concern, he explained, is finding a political solution. If this issue remains unresolved, conditions will inevitably worsen again. "We cannot build a house without first establishing its foundation. The foundation for that house is the Palestinian people receiving their rights and having their own state; they have the right to live on their own land. Unfortunately, that seems less likely to happen than ever before." For that to happen, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani says, all parties need to agree. Al Thani stated that the relationship between Qatar and the United States has always been reciprocal. However, some parties do not want this relationship to prosper, so Qatar makes significant efforts to protect and maintain these ties. The interview was a significant part of the Doha Forum, currently being held in Qatar. It is noteworthy that Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani was appointed Prime Minister on March 7, 2023, while continuing to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he has held since January 27, 2016.
