(YANGON) Myanmar's Senior General, Min Aung Hlaing, will visit Russia in the coming days and meet President Vladimir Putin, sources in Yangon told PanOrient News.

During the "goodwill" visit, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the State Administration Council Chairman and Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, will accompany members of the State Administration Council, Union Ministers, and senior officials.

The Myanmar delegation will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and other officials from the Russian government to discuss issues related to friendship, economic affairs, and security and strengthen strategic cooperation across all sectors.

The visit, which comes at the invitation of President Putin, will be a significant development in Myanmar's foreign relations, especially since the military seized power in 2021 following an accusation of election tampering against the previous government.

In further steps on the internal front to open the government, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing approved that Elections will be held in the country to elect new government and parliament members. "We are an interim government and will try to hold elections at the end of this year or early next year," he said.

He has recently approved the government's decision to donate a 4-acre plot of land to construct two mosques in the capital, Naypyitaw, which, observers say, is a strong testament to Myanmar's commitment to religious diversity and inclusivity. The land clearing has commenced, and a paved road to this plot has already been constructed.

Myanmar has a huge Muslim community that has over 4 thousand mosques in the country, where they practice their faith freely along with the followers of other religions.

In this regard, sources in Myanmar told PanOrient News that the country is considering applying for observer status at the organization of the Islamic States.

The teaching of Arabic at the International Foreign Language Institute has also been approved by Senior Gen Min Aung Hlaing, indicating the strong interest of Myanmar leadership in boosting its relations with Arab countries, especially on the economic cooperation front.

Officials and business leaders in Myanmar are optimistic about Myanmar's potential for mega joint projects with Arab countries, especially with the GCC members, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain, paving the way for promising economic cooperation.
