Morocco and Japan win gold at Africa Triathlon Cup Dakhla

Rabat: Moroccan Jawad Abdelmoula and Japanese Minori Ikeno won the fifth edition of the Africa Triathlon Cup Dakhla, organized by the Royal Moroccan Triathlon University. This endurance multisport race consisted of a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride and 5-kilometer run.

Abdelmoula finished the race in 52:27 minutes, ahead of Japan’s Ren Sato (52:32), while Russia’s Denis Beloborodov finished third in 52:38.

In the women’s race, Minori Ikeno won gold in 1:00:57, followed by her compatriot Chisato Nakajima in 1:01:12, with Kazakh Ekaterina Shabalina third in a time of 1:01:34.

The event contributes to qualification for the Paris Olympic Games 2024 and was held under the auspices of the International Triathlon Federation and the African Triathlon Confederation. Around 40 athletes from 18 countries – including France, Spain, Belgium, the United States, Colombia, Japan and Mexico – took part.
