Japan Condemns Rocket Launched from Gaza
Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Tokyo- (PanOrient News) Japan condemned the act of a rocket launched from the Palestinian territory of Gaza into the northern suburbs of Tel Aviv, Israel, and called for resumed peace negotiations.
“Japan expresses its heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured, and is deeply concerned about the rise of tension in the surrounding area,” said the statement released Tuesday from Japan's Foreign Ministry in Tokyo.
Immediately after the incident it was unclear exactly who had launched the rocket, which Israel claimed it injured seven people and set a house on fire, and whether the launch had been intentional. Israel blamed Hamas for the attack and responded by bombing several of Hamas’s buildings, reportedly also injuring several people.
“Japan firmly believes that the issues the two parties, Israel and Palestine face, cannot by any means be resolved by violence, and that they can be resolved only through efforts of both sides to build mutual trust and through negotiations between them,” said the statement. “Japan urges all parties concerned to exert their maximum efforts toward resuming the peace negotiations.”
