Kosovo Japan Summit

Hashim Thachi, president of the Republic of Kosovo, held a summit meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Thachi was elected president in February 2016. Before becoming president, he served as prime minister for two consecutive terms from 2007 to 2014, including the period in February 2008 when the nation's independence was declared. He was also the political head of the Kosovo Liberation Army during the civil war that continued for two years during 1997-1999. Kosovo is now recognized by more than one hundred countries, including Japan.
