Japan Deplores Israel's Settlements: A ``Violation of International Law``

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) The Japanese government today has expressed severe criticism and sorrow that the Israeli authority has issued settlement tenders for 450 units in the West Bank, and has called upon Israel to fully freeze settlement activities. Japan has insisted that Israel desists from implementing the above-mentioned plan of construction for the sake of progress in the peace process.

A statement issued by the foreign ministry in Tokyo said Japan considers this Israeli action as something that "clearly goes against the ongoing efforts by the international community toward realizing a two-state solution. Japan would like to point out that Prime Minister Abe urged the Government of Israel to freeze all settlement activity during his visit to Israel last month".

The Settlement activities by Israel are a violation of international law, and Japan has repeatedly called upon Israel to halt them and to refrain from any unilateral act that changes the current status of the West Bank.

Japan once again strongly urges both Israeli and Palestinian sides to act toward promoting mutual trust and to continue to make steady efforts for peace, the statement said.
